Ex-Teacher Succombs In Albany

Mrs. Marie Gentner Keegan, 69, of Kinderhook, a former language teacher in Batavia schools, died Wednesday, December 12, 1973, at the Albany Medical Center. She had been in failing health for several months. She and her husband, Howard Keegan resided in Kinderhook.

Mrs. Keegan was a native of Kinderhook, a graduate of Batavia High School and the former Albany State Teachers' College and received a master's degree from the University of Buffalo.

She began her teaching career in Kinderhook in 1926, but came to Batavia in 1929 where she taught German, Latin, and French during her BHS teaching career which ended in her retirement in June of 1962. Afterward, she taught languages for two years at Notre Dame High School.

Mrs. Keegan left Batavia in the mid-1960's and lived in Baltimore for a time prior to her marriage and her return to Kinderhook.

Surviving besides her husband are a brother, Charles Gentner, of Baltimore, a niece Mrs. Mary Ann McDermott De Matteo of Long Island and several cousins.

Services will be Saturday with burial in Kinderhook.
